3 Ways To Childproof Your French Doors

If you have young children in your house, you need to make sure that you childproof everything to keep your kids safe. Make sure when you are child proofing that you don't forget about your French doors. Here are a few ways you can ensure that your French doors are childproof and your child is safe.

Door Knob Covers

If your child is currently going through a curious phase where they try to open any doors and draws that they can, you need to cover up the knobs on your French doors.

You can purchase knob covers that go over the handles of your French doors and make it more difficult for your little one to try and open them on their own. There are door knob covers for circular doorknobs and for ones that are shaped more like a handle. They both function the same way.

Door Protection Strips

When you open and close your French door, there is always a risk that your little one may be examining the door hinges. Protect your child from putting their fingers through the door hinges by putting a door protection strip over the hinges on your French doors.

You can purchase door protection strips at your local hardware store. Most door protection strips can either be secured in place with glue or with nails. It runs the length of your door and covers up the hinges. Once you purchase it, you should be able to quickly install it in a matter of minutes.

Cloth Pads

If you have little ones that are just learning to walk, and seem to bump into just about everything in your home, you may want to temporarily install some cloth pads across the bottom of your French doors. You can generally find these pads in the childproofing section of your local department store, or you can make your own.

To make your own, just purchase some foam and wrap some cloth around it. To make the project even simpler, you can use a hot glue gun to glue the cloth into place. Then use double sticky sided tape to secure the cloth pads to the bottom of your French doors. That way, if your little one bumps into them, they will not get hurt.

Keep your young child safe from any harm that your French doors could cause them by implementing the three safety tips above this next week.
